Thumbnail Documentation

During our relocation to Austin, I knew active participation in art and architecture would be pushed to the back of the list. To keep up with myself, during this stressful yet unique time in my life, I have taken a few thumbnails everyday of something I found to be beautiful - my inspiration and motivation. Here are some examples of this quick form of documentation.

Memorial Day sketching in Austin

Recently relocating to Austin, I have been eager anticipating my first sketches! Both pencil drawings done about 1 block from our new apartment.

Our First Place Together

When I returned from my travels abroad, I moved into my boyfriend's place in Moscow, ID. After the initial excitement of seeing him, we jumped right into planning and organizing our possessions. I sketched this floor plan before we moved anything and the place ended up looking very similar to the sketch in the end. We decided to move about two months ago to a dog friendly house, but this apartment will always hold a very special place in my heart: our first place together.

Although many of the Basilica's in Rome have a similar basic layout, they all have very unique floorplans. Drawing and studying the structure in plan helps me understand structural aspects, spatial concepts and themes throughout the time of the construction.
On the way to Ostia, the ancient mouth of the Tiber River, many people asked where we were actually going - It's a messy map, but I think it did the trick.
This quiet, charming space near Piazza Navona is a perfect opportunity for some great sketching.
